At Corolla Beach looking for the Wild Horses

So we finished w/ the ARTrageous festival and next thing you know we were headed to Corolla on a whim. Layla says to me, "What are we doing?" I replied, "We are going to see the wild Horses." And then once the kids heard that, our destiny was set. About 13 miles into it, I was starting to have my doubts, Jack and Maddie were power struggling over the Potato Chips and Savannah kept asking us to turn up the music. But as the pictures tell, our trip truly turned into an adventure and not only did we stumble upon some horses, "Which we later found out was pure luck, because most people never get to see the horses.." but we also wandered upon an old Coast Guard Station in which the guy staying there allowed us to look around the inside. As we walked in and Layla starting falling in love with the place. The old bead board paneling, early 1900's cast iron tub, and the smell of the heart pine floors, the place was just awesome. Truly the perfect beach house.

"Just watch out for Mose", the man said as we were looking around. Savannah then stopped halfway up the stairs and said, "Who's Mose?" "Mose is the ghost that lives upstairs!" he chuckled. Layla and I looked at the little ones and they were ready to find Mose. Maybe Mose was the surfman, who's Honorable Discharge certificate from 1933 hung on the wall you see above. He must be still standing the watch waiting for his relief.......


After we left the Coast Guard station we eventually traveled the beach in 4x4 until we reached False Cape State Park at the Virginia border. This was our que to turn around. The kids each took a turn driving back down the beach. But we had one more mission....

OK so most of you know this is Savannahs first year at a new school so shes had to start over making new friends. Well today she comes and tells me that she was voted Student Government Representative for her 6th grade homeroom... Im so impressed that over 50% of her class voted HER to be their representative! I AM ONE PROUD MOM!

NOT AGAIN

Well Hurricane Ophelia is on her way HERE or so it seems... I guess I will be evacuating to Rocky Mount or wherever the CG tells me.. Bert is still in NOLA helping with the cleanup. No idea when he'll be home so Im just doing what I can by myself to prep the house and praying it just skirts the coast and doesnt do any damage... I should have my laptop with me and as always my cell phone! Will update you as soon as things change!

Whats going on here!!!!

The Walshes come for a visit!!! The same weekend Bert gets a call telling him hes needed in Louisiana... So hes off for 30 days to ground zero. Weve talked, hes working long hours,but hes happy to be there coordinating search and rescue missions. The kids and I miss him very much but know that Louisiana needs him worse than we do! Layla

MADDIES FIRST DAY

This is Maddies new classroom and after only one day at school she LOVES it!!!!! Oh and isnt she beautiful?????

Our trip to Charleston

We really had fun in Charleston. We rode a horse and carraige, went to Waterfront Park and swam in Granny and Grandads Pool... Savannahs friend Magen came along for the trip!! We made it back home safe and sound and are getting the girls ready to start school this week.. Stay tuned for First Day pictures.

Headed Home

Just wanted to let everyone know we are heading home this weekend for probably the last time until Thanksgiving! We'll be getting there on the 12th and leaving the 21st and will try to see everyone we can while we are home... The girls start school on August 25th and they are both at a new school and a little nervous and excited. Jack and I will be staying home and finding things to do, and Bert begins his new job as Supervisor of the SFO here in Nags Head... We are excited to be coming home and look forward to seeing you all.. And as always, you are always welcome to visit us here in Nags Head!!! Layla
